Thomas Hardy June 2, 1840 – January 11, 1928 English poet and novelist: A Broken Appointment You did not come, And marching Time drew on, and thomas hardy 1840 (Stinsford) – 1928 (Dorchester, Dorset) Thomas Hardy, was a Scottish Minister, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and Professor of Eccesiastical History at Edinburgh University. Thomas Hardy, OM, was an English author of the naturalist movement, although in several poems he displays elements of the previous romantic and enlightenment periods of literature, such as his fascination with the supernatural. He regarded himself primarily as a poet and composed novels mainly for financial gain. While a prolific novelist, Thomas Hardy is a first-rate poet whose verse seems to get lost between attempts at poet canonization among those between late-Victorianism and early Modernism.
